What is considered appropiate treatment for children and adults with Attachment Disorder, or attachment issues?

For children, effective therapy requires a team approach which must always include the child's parents. The following treatment interventions are offered through the Institute for Child and Family Development:

  • Behavior management
  • Cognitive restructuring
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Therapy focused upon CranioSacral and visceral techniques
  • Psychodrama
  • Narrative therapy
  • Social skills
  • Parent education
  • Family and couples therapy to help parents and siblings heal from the emotional wounding which results from living with a rage-filled child
  • Reparenting
  • School consultation
  • Assistance with obtaining funding for treatment and, if needed, out-of-home placement

For adults, therapy may include significant others to whom the client learns to attach. Treatement interventions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Cognitive restructuring

  • Therapy focused upon CranioSacral and visceral techniques
  • Narrative therapy
